New York Connection special project band to perform at Koktebel Jazz Party

New York Connection

The band New York Connection, which will perform today at the Koktebel Jazz Party, is a temporary project created especially for the festival, Vitaly Golovnev, a member of the band, said.

"The musicians in the band are from different generations. Bassist Gerald Cannon is a renowned jazz musician and has played with many legendary bands. And drummer Willie Jones, this is my first time playing with him, and for me it's great luck and a priceless experience, I have always wanted to play with him," Golovnev said.

Golovnev talked about the band's program. "We'll begin with "Long Hands," a piece I wrote. The rest of the compositions are from lead singer Johnaye Kendrick's repertoire — both her interpretations of jazz standards and some pieces she wrote."

According to the New York Connection band members, the Koktebel Jazz Party is very professionally organized, and the atmosphere is very positive. The musicians expect the audience to enjoy today's performance.

"This is a beautiful location that has a great stage and a lot of energy," Johnaye Kendrick said. "I can't wait to perform on this stage. I've performed on similar stages in Brazil near the ocean. This is very inspiring," she said.
