Dead Frank, a pretty unusual name for a jazz band, was created in St.Petersburg in 2012 and performs mostly in its home city.
"We don't know who Frank was, who he loved or why he is dead; why Frank chose us and we chose him; why it began so and when it will end. In our sound, one can hear pain, joy, triumph, fear, love, agony, wrath and liberation. The music we create is not conscious. It's a flow streaming out of a source unknown to us, and we don't feel like we want to know anything about it at all. We just called it Frank. Dead Frank. So meet him," that's what the musicians say about their band's name.
Dead Frank released its first full-length album, The Trip, in 2015. The band advocates total improvisation when music is born the moment it is played. And those aren't just words. Every single note in the debut album is full of freedom.
Despite its ghastly name, Dead Frank looks more alive and kicking than most of the living. So here is a new interesting band for you, dear improvisation lovers!
