Lineup of 19th jazz season in Crimea published

The organizing committee of the Koktebel Jazz Party international jazz festival has announced the lineup for August 20-22 on the Main and Voloshin stages.

On the first day of the festival, the Main Stage audience will be able to see performances given by Uralskiy Dixieland, one of the oldest traditional jazz bands in post-Soviet countries, also the Musical Duel of jazz pianists Daniel Kramer and Valery Grokhovsky, as well as the drummer Pavel Timofeyev’s quintet with a special guest. Jazz improvisations by saxophonist Stanislav Dolzhkov’s band will be performed on the Voloshin Stage the same day.

On the second and third day, the Main Stage’s program will include performances by Georgy Garanyan Big Band (Krasnodar) and his special guests Bobby Martinez and Ramon Gonzalez; Russian musician and composer Sergey Golovnya and his Electro Machine band, singer Mariam Merabova and Armen Merabov’s Miraif project; and the Jazz Ladies and Gentlemen trio of singers Irina Rodiles, Viktoria Kaunova and Valeria Shurgalina among other bands. On the third weekend of August, the iconic Tri-O band of intuitive music and Snobs, pianist Alexei Becker’s quartet.

Foreign performers will take part in the 19th jazz season in Koktebel, too: as tradition goes, their names will be announced on the opening day, August 20. The full list of Koktebel Jazz Party participants’ shows can be found on its website. The list may be updated.

Tickets went on sale in June. Tickets can be purchased at Concert.ru, as well as at KJP ticket offices on festival days. It costs 500 rubles to enter and tickets for the main area cost 1,500 rubles. Journalists can apply for accreditation via the festival’s website.

In order to ensure the safety of participants and audiences, the festival’s organizing committee will comply with all the coronavirus sanitary recommendations of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor). The list of requirements for participants, guests, and audiences at the Koktebel Jazz Party venues can be found on the website.    

Koktebel Jazz Party is a coronavirus-free event. Due to the difficult epidemiologic situation, the access conditions may change depending on the epidemiologic developments in the region and Rospotrebnadzor’s recommendations. As of today, participants, guests, and spectators are required to provide at least one of these three documents:

  • Negative PCR test dated no earlier than August 18, 2021,
  • Test of antibodies to COVID-19 S-protein dated no earlier than May 25, 2021,
  • COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

The first jazz festival was held in Koktebel, a small town in Crimea, in 2003 as a private initiative of journalist Dmitry Kiselev, the founding father of Koktebel jazz. The festival is now a popular international jazz event. The names of jazz stars planning to participate are always kept secret until the last minute. The famous jazz musicians who have attended the event over the years include the legendary drummer Jimmy Cobb (US), Gonzalo Rubalcaba (Cuba), the winner of a Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Performance, American bassist Stanley Clarke, famous for his innovative technique, German stars of nu jazz (jazztronica) Club Des Belugas, the unique Israeli saxophonist Robert Anchipolovsky, and De-Phazz from Heidelberg, Germany. President Vladimir Putin was a guest of KJP-2017.

Koktebel Jazz Party is not just about world-class jazz, but also about a true sense of freedom that creates the thrilling vibrations of music, sea, body and soul. The event is organized by the Krasny Kvadrat (Red Square) media group.

Rap Koktebel is a youth rap culture and music festival. It was first held in late August 2019 in Crimea, also at Dmitry Kiselev’s initiative.

The major media sponsors of Koktebel Jazz Party are the Rossiya radio and television network, SMOTRIM multimedia platform and Rossiya Kultura TV channel.

The musical partner is Radio JAZZ 89.1 FM.

The KoktebelJazzParty festival is a COVID-free zone. Given the difficult epidemiological situation, the terms of access to the festival may be changed, depending on the epidemiological situation in the region and the recommendations issued by the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor).
All festival participants, guests and spectators must present at least one of the three documents listed below:

  • A negative PCR test performed not earlier than August 18, 2021
  • A certificate showing the presence of antibodies to the S-protein of COVID-19, issued not earlier than May 25, 2021
  • A COVID-19 vaccination certificate

All guests, members of the audience and media representatives must wear masks and gloves at the festival venues.
