East-West Connection to play Mongolian songs

East-West Connection

The second day of the Koktebel Jazz Party festival will have Mongolian folk songs performed on the stage by the East-West Connection Quintet, which brought together musicians from Korea, Mongolia, Russia and Germany.

Anjie, the quintet vocalist, said Koktebel Jazz Party is a great event and thanked the festival's organizers for the excellent job they have done. She announced that the quintet's performance will feature Mongolian songs and music specially arranged for this festival.

Martin Zenker, the leader of East-West Connection, reported that the musicians may adjust the program depending on the audience reception.

He added that unfortunately, they were pressed for time and would play more pieces if they had two or three hours to perform. It was hard to decide on what to play since they only have one hour for the performance. They selected a number of compositions by Pavel Skornyakov and Martin Zenker, and will choose different variants of the program depending on how the audience reacts, the musician said.

Zenker also told us that East-West Connection was set up two years ago when he came to Mongolia and attempted to combine traditional Mongolian music with jazz.

Music is a universal language, he said. We may have our own individual attitude to music and its perception, yet ultimately we all speak the same language, and we have the same goal, which allows us to successfully work together, he stressed.
